Ratabilia Roland Rat Page

Welcome to the Ratabilia Roland Rat Page

Here is our collection of Roland Rat (& friends) plush toys. We now have enough of the collection for it's own section. If you collect Roland Rat plush toys, you will find some good tips on what to look out for and what you may expect to pay for the various toys. We have had several requests for Roland Rat plush toy info, so we are now bringing it to you Rat Fans all on this new page!

Near Xmas 2001 we got four plush toys, original approx 20 years old and still in the sealed bag! A Reggie Rat, a standard blue/yellow rugby shirt Roland Rat, a Roland Rat in Disco outfit and a Glenis. We committed collecting sacrilege and opened three of them - they were to nice not to be handled! We did keep the Disco Roland Rat sealed in his bag - very collectable for Rat Fans!

Where to look for Roland Rat plush toys

Roland Rat plush toys can be found in charity shops and at car boot sales, although in recent years Roland has become known as a collectable and has become rare at such places. Another place are antique and collectable toy fairs, shows and shops. Although the best place now is at online auctions such as Ebay.

General Roland Rat Collecting Tips

Check they are clean and don't have any tears, bad repairing or missing hats (especially the Beach wear Roland).

Check they still have their labels and that it has not faded (not major, but a clear label makes it more collectable).

Check their colour has not faded to much.

Check the ones with removable jackets (Beach Wear Roland and Disco Roland) are not missing their jackets.

Roland Rat Table of Rareness (Rarest to Commonest)

1. Reggie Rat & Glenis. You do see more Reggie's than Glenis's, but most tend to have missing scarfs - so I rate them about the same. I have seen some Reggie Rats go for £40 plus. The few Glenis's I have seen have gone for £20 to £30.

2. Disco Roland. I have seen mint condition ones go for £25+

3. Beach Wear Roland. A good condition one could go for £15+

4. Errol the Hamster. A good condition one can go for £15+

5. Kevin the Gerbil. A good one could be £10+

6. Large Roland, small yellow/light blue rugby shirt Roland & Blue Roland. About £5+

7. Standard yellow/blue rugby shirt Roland. Anything from £1 to £10+ for a real mint one.

Our latest addition. A small size Roland in yellow/light blue rugby shirt. This outfit is the same as the large Roland.

Roland Rat dressing up in his red jumper, hat and scarf, not an official outfit. Notice the Union Jack on the front of his jumper, very patriotic!

It's great 'ere innit! Reggie Rat comes to Ratware, the cute one of the Roland Rat family. The long awaited arrival of Reggie is over, the red carpet has been unfurled and now he is here to stay. This is one of the rarest of the set!

On the left is an absolute mint condition Reggie, we got him still in the bag (from ex shop stock) just before Xmas 2001. Compare him with our other Reggie (which is still considered very good condition), his totally unfaded scarf and blue bottoms do stand out! And he has his description tag.

A tip on collecting a Reggie is to check he still has his yellow scarf. Also check his lettering on his shirt, as this is fine and does tend to break off.

The epitome of Ratabilia - Roland Rat, in his day a Super Star. Here we have our three standard Rolands - the middle one we got still in the bag, as with the Reggie above. This is the most commonly found Roland Rat plush toy.
Here is Roland Rat in his blue outfit, this is about the second most commonly found Roland plush toy (along with the Big one below).

'Little Big Roland' - This is about tie with the blue Roland in being about the second most commonly found plush toy, he is also the largest Roland plush toy - all the others are about the size of the standard one next to him.

If on his own, you can tell him apart from the 'standard' Roland as his strips and shorts are light blue.

Beach Wear Roland. Roland, in Hawaiian shirt, string vest and knotted hanky hat.

One of these with all his bits, ranks about as rare as an Errol the Hamster

Keep your eye out for one's missing the shirt and just have the string vest as these are not a different Roland and not very collectable. Also some are missing the hanky hat, so keep an eye out for that as well.

Roland Rat Superstar Disco Diva, in his snazzy sparkly gold suit, bow tie and frilly shirt. This is the rarest of the actual Roland Rats - I think the most collectable.

Keep your eye out for ones missing the gold jacket, as these are not as collectable but do turn up regularly!

Our two Disco Rolands side by side. Our one on the right is mint condition, but the one on the left is ecen better! Still in his sealed bag and with the card showing the whole Roland Rat & friends available plush toys!
OK We cheated on this one, there was never officially a Roland released with army clothes, but he looked so cool dressed in camo gear. Captain Rollie at your service! Atteeenshun!
Kevin the Gerbil, Roland Rats best friend. Although not mint condition, our one still has his description tag - which is quite rare!
Errol the Hamster, slightly rarer than Kevin his best friend (maybe because he is Welsh and Kevin is Liverpudlian?). As with our Kevin, he still has his description tag.
Glenis the Guinea Pig, about the rarest along with Reggie. This one was mint condition and still in her sealed bag when we got her. Very rare.
