Hi, I've been trying for some time to find out if some books in the FAQ were actually written. I came across Lynn Abbey's website yesterday and sent her an email about the supposed books. Here is her reply:- Hi, Peter -- I've heard of Something about the Author, but I've never seen it (or them). I'm not sure where they got their information, but it appears that somehow they've managed to get a hold of contracts and proposals rather than actual books. (Just as with the movies, many books get proposed, a few get contracted, and even fewer get written.) As I recall -- and my recollection may be off -- The Demon Blade was a proposal for a novel about the various owners of a demonic sword; it was never written. The Star Stalkers might have been the working title for the Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe collaboration that Bob did with George Takei. The Tambu Antholody was to be short stories about individuals who worked for Tambu -- it got shelved as Thieves' World took off. Act of God was a real, contracted project that Bob and I were going to do about the melting of the Antarctic ice sheet -- probably just as well that we never never, if you'll excuse the expression, got it off the ground. (The contract was eventually subsumed into my Siege of Shadows contract, which was itself subsumed into OUT OF TIME which will be published this July.... an old contract never dies or fades away). Birds of Prey was the working title of the TW volume published as Wings of Omen -- Dave Drake, one of our TW authors, had a book in the works (at Baen, I think) with the Birds of Prey title and so we retitled ours. I'm pleased that you're looking forward to the new TW project. Yes, I will be writing the novel solo, though I imagine that Bob's name will be on the cover. He's pretty much given up writing now. Last I heard, he was looking to get back into a full-time accounting job outside the French Quarter. I believe he's made some sort of arrangement to have the Myth Adventures series finished by collaborators, much as he's done with the Phule's Company material. He and I endured a sad, messy divorce which left me in control of the then-defunct Thieves' World property. I'm still in the process of getting new agreements vetted by lawyers (it was supposed to be done by the end of February... sigh...). Until they're finished, I can't formally invite authors to participate in the new anthologies, but I will definitely extend an invitation to Bob. Thanks for writing! I don't know if you are familiar with a set of books called Something about the Author but they are basically a set of books that give a brief biography of an author and a list of books that they have written. In their list for Robert Asprin, they include 5 books which don't seem to exist. They are The Demon Blade, The Star Stalkers, Tambu Anthology (not Tambu), Act of God (supposedly written with you) and Birds of Prey (supposedly edited with you). Do you know if any of these books really exist? Also, it's interesting to hear that Thieves' World is going to be revived. Are you writing the reintroductory novel solo? Who else is involved with the anthology series? Regards, Peter. So, maybe this could be added to the FAQ. Interesting bit about a possible ending for Myth Adventures. Regards, Peter.
